Raider Madness hits Libla

Raider Madness hits Libla

Libla Family Sports Complex opened its doors on Sunday for the start of the Three Rivers College hoops season with its annual Raider Madness event.

The Raiders and Lady Raiders were introduced to the crowd by the voice of TRC hoops, Tim Hager.

Along with meeting this year’s team, fans were able to see a three-point contest, a dunk contest and scrimmages from both squads, as well as a performance from the TRC cheer team.

Three Rivers men’s basketball player Bryce Wallace won the dunk contest. Wallace, a freshman from Kenosha, Wis., skied toward the rim as fans and many players could be seen recording Wallace and the rest of the participants on their phone.

Freshman Robert Alexander won the men’s three-point contest while Hayti native Amiya Johnson won the women’s three-point contest.

Both of this year’s rosters will feature local talent as Johnson, along with former Doniphan Donette Brooklynn Klepzig, will represent Southeast Missouri on the Lady Raider roster while several players will cross the border from the south as they hail from Arkansas.

On the men’s side, former Doniphan Don Max Owen and former Dexter Bearcat Cole Nichols will suit up for Brian Bess and the Raiders this season.

The men’s team has several exhibiton game and jamborees to attend in October as they start their new campaign Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, as the Mullen/Mitchell Dallas JUCO Blowout.

The Raiders will host Arkansas State Mid-South and We Are United Prep on Oct. 14 at TRC.

The Raiders open the season Nov. 3 at home against Dallas College North Lake. They host defending NJCAA National Champion John A. Logan on Nov. 4.

The Lady Raiders play Oct. 15 in the Southwest Showcase in Mansfield, Texas, then have stops at Murray State, SIU and Central Arkansas for scrimmages.

TRC opens the season Nov. 1 at Dyersburg State Community College. The Lady Raiders have their home opener Nov. 4 against Wabash Valley College.

Three Rivers fans will have a new opportunity to see their squad this year as the Raiders will have their game streamed on YouTube this season and the TRC website.
