NEOSHO, Mo. — Looking to avenge one of their two losses on the season, the Three Rivers women's basketball team fell behind quickly and never recovered Saturday. The Lady Raiders scored six first-quarter points to trail by 13 and lost for a second time to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 72-45 at Crowder College. On Friday, Kakeita Chappel scored 10 of her game-high 32 points in the opening quarter as the Lady Raiders beat Eastern Oklahoma State 98-86. Three Rivers (11-3) fell behind by 13 with five minutes left in the fi rst half Friday but rallied after switching defenses, Lady Raiders coach Jeff Walk said. "We could have easily lost that but they got through it and made plays," Walk said. Chappel, who scored a career-high 27 on Dec. 1, scored 28 points in three quarters. The freshman, along with Casey Douglas, helped the Raiders in their 1-3-1 halfcourt defense, Walk said. Three Rivers took a 47- 45 lead into halftime and pulled away in the third quarter. DeNayia Holmes sank a pair of 3-pointers for her fi rst points in the third and finished with 13 points. Markeia Porter and Hailee Erickson each scored 13 points for the Raiders while Alex Kohler added 10 in the win. Three Rivers had its seven-game win streak snapped Saturday by the last team to beat the Raiders. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, which beat Three Rivers 77-63 on Nov. 17, led 19-6 after one quarter. "Got off to a bad start, missed some shots around the basket and turnovers were up more than normal," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said. Kohler led the Raiders with 13 points and was the only player to reach double figures as Holmes added eight. Douglas scored all six of her points in the first half while Erickson scored all six of her points in the second. Chappel finished with four points. Three Rivers got to the free throw line 11 times, none in the opening quarter. The Lady Raiders travel Tuesday to John A. Logan (Ill.) College after winning 73-72 at home against the Volunteers on Dec. 5.
